Operations
Salsbury Community Society (SCS) seeks to be a different kind of landlord.
Grounded in relationships more than social services, we operate small scale and medium density housing that emerges out of neighbourhood partnerships. We care deeply about our tenants and their flourishing in community, the sustainability of the buildings, and the well-being of staff. Through shared decision-making, good governance, accessible training, principled policy making, and stewardship of our building(s) and staff, SCS strives to nurture neighbourliness.
We know that when trust is high amongst neighbours, fewer calls are made to emergency services and property crime decreases. We’ve seen how frequent positive neighbour-to- neighbour interactions decreases anxiety and depression. When tenants love their home and their neighbours, not only individuals, but the wider community often benefits.
We currently operate the Co:Here housing community, an apartment with 26 homes, in East Vancouver because we believe the Big Picture requires thinking outside the box. We are looking for new opportunities to operate small scale housing. Please reach out to us if you want to learn more.

Drawing on our experience, we’ve launched a consulting service for those seeking to unlock connection and belonging for tenants and staff. SCS Consultants will help you consider how your operating systems can be improved to drive connection between people.
Services we provide are helping you consider how the physical space can optimize connection, how your housing application design and intake process can set folks up for success, as well as assist you in setting up the systems and policies that support a more connected community.
